City centre sandy beach beckons

Getaway: Stressed and with no time to go to the beach this summer? No problem: the beach is coming to you.

The City Square in Lincoln will be transformed into a sandy beach in just under two weeks. Over 30 tonnes of sand will be dumped at the central location for the summer holiday attraction, running from August 16 to September 5.

While relaxing on the impromptu beach, children and families can enjoy Punch & Judy shows, appearing on August 16, 20, 25 and 31, and also on September 3.

“We’ve pulled out all the stops this year to create a real holiday atmosphere in the heart of the city, and to offer lots of entertainment for people without them having to travel long distances,” said Michael Armstrong, organising the event for the Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG).

“We’re really excited about The Beach and feel that it really is something which will attract whole families, while the children get stuck in making sand castles, moms and dads can relax over an ice cream and still manage to keep an eye on them.”

Other activities planned by Lincoln BIG include a free three-day programme of music, dance, and circus skills workshops, starting August 10. This will culminate in a Kids’ Talent Show, hosted by LincsFM presenter Rob Hammond, which kicks off at 2pm on August 12, and anyone can enter.
