Olympic skaters reopen Ice Rink [U1]

Skating off: Lincoln’s ice rink is off to a good start, with a great opening last night.

— Update 1: Despite the recent snowfall the city centre’s Ice Rink has confirmed that they are still open from 10am until 9pm.

Lincoln’s annual ice skating rink was officially opened on November 25, in an impressive skating ceremony.

The ice rink, which is in Lincoln until January 2, was opened at 5.30pm.

The opening ceremony saw presenters from Lincs FM keeping the crowds entertained, while young and Olympic skaters showed off their moves on the ice.

The cast of Drill Hall panto Dick Whittington also helped to get the proceedings underway.

This year children skating on the ice that are a little wobbly on their legs can get some help from six smartly-dressed penguins, each with handles to grip.

Lincoln BIG are also hoping to get last year’s live webcams up and running again, allowing people to see what is happening on the ice at any time.

Lincoln BIG’s Events and Promotions Assistant, Rachel Hanson believes the rink looked perfect.

“Setting up the ice rink has gone very well this year. Everything has gone to plan so far. We’ve got some good ice.”

Slots to skate are filling up, and all times on the opening night were fully booked. To avoid disappointment, book a future slot at the ice rink’s box office.
