Man jailed for over 200 burglaries

Six years: A 43-year-old man was jailed for six years after admitting to 203 burglaries.

A 43-year-old man from Sheffield was sentenced to six years in jail at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday, after admitting to over 200 burglaries across the country.

Mark Marriott of Woodland Drive, North Anston, Sheffield, admitted to 203 offences, 69 of which in Lincolnshire, and 49 in the greater Lincoln area.

The other burglaries were committed in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Cambridgeshire and South Yorkshire.

Lincolnshire Police caught Marriott after investigations across the county. This led to the identification of his vehicle, which was stopped after a burglary in Spilsby.

“This sentence is great news for the large number of victims who have gone through the trauma of being burgled,” said DCI Shaun West.

“This investigation was a demonstration of the dogged determination and team work of our officers, both here in Lincoln and across the force.

“Marriott was a well organised, professional criminal who chose his victims very carefully.

“We thank the public for their patience while we carried out extensive investigations and covert work across Lincolnshire.

“In the end it was a combination of financial analysis on stolen credit cards, covert tactics and the use of the ANPR system that led to the arrest of Marriott.”
