Lincoln’s wins public loos award

Flushed away: The people who look after Lincoln’s public toilets have been named the best cleaning team in the country.

The team that looks after Lincoln’s public toilets has been flushed with success after it was named as the best team in the country.

City of Lincoln Council’s Public Conveniences Team took the top spot at the Loo of the Year Awards, where it got named national In-House Cleaning Team of the Year.

Three of the council-run public toilets were also given five star status, which puts them alongside the finest loos in the country, the City Council announced.

Tentercroft Street, Castle Square and Lucy Tower were all given the top rating.

An unannounced visit by a Loo of the Year inspector took place earlier this year, judging the toilet on signage, decorations and cleanliness, as well as other criteria.

Yvonne Bodger from the City Council said: “Our public facilities have been top rated, and this couldn’t be done without the dedication of the staff who maintain them.

“It’s great to see that our Cleansing Services Team recognised as the top team in England,” Budger added.

All the public toilets in Lincoln are currently open, except those at High Bridge, which the City Council says are likely to be closed for a while due to maintenance.
