Pregnant Lincolnites get fitness classes

Fitness for two: New fitness sessions for pregnant women have been set up in Lincoln.

Pregnant women in Lincoln can now take part in specialised aqua and aerobics classes at Yarborough Leisure Centre, as part of a new council scheme.

The Healthy Lifestyles Team of the City Council are being joined by two midwives to take two aqua fit classes and one studio class per week, designed for mothers to be.

The classes aim to exercise appropriately to help with muscle tone, strength and stamina.

However, pregnant women can only take part if their midwives refer them.

Healthy Lifestyles Team Leader Jo Smith said: “Keeping active during pregnancy will help you to cope better with the physical demands of pregnancy, labour and motherhood and these are brand new classes like this for Lincoln.

“Women must be referred to the classes by their midwives, so I would encourage pregnant ladies to ask about them at their next visit.”

The Aquanatal classes are £2.50 a class and the Antenatal class is £1 per session. Both are led be qualified professionals.
