Holiday Inn shows off £1 million refurb

Hotel revamp: Holiday Inn on Brayford Pool is refurbishing all its rooms ahead of an expected busy holiday season.

The Holiday Inn hotel on Brayford Pool is spending £1 million to refurbish all its rooms and public areas ahead of an anticipated busy holiday season.

All of the hotel’s 97 rooms are set to be fully revamped by the end of October, with new furniture, beds, TVs and wireless internet.

Holiday Inn spent on average £6,000 for each refurbished room.

In addition, the hotel is also revamping its lounge, restaurant and public areas ahead of the holiday rush, starting October, for six weeks.

The hotel received planning permission for a 50-rooms extension, although Senior General Manager Scott Randall explained building work has not started yet:

“At the moment, with the current economy, the focus is going to have to be the hotel refurbishment; because the hotel has been so popular it was difficult to find the opportunity to refurbish.”

Hilton will open a 115-bedroom DoubleTree hotel right next to Holiday Inn on Brayford Pool in November and Randall believes the two hotels can happily coexist:

“There are a number of towns and cities around the UK that have Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn all sitting next to each other, but because they’re very different brands, and they all do well.

“I’m sure comments were made when we built the Holiday Inn Express a couple of years ago within a five-minute walk of our hotel, but again, they have their own market that’s independent to us.”
