Lincoln Olympic Torch Relay Ambassador announced

A woman who set out on a remarkable endurance test has been named Lincoln’s Olympic Torch Relay Ambassador, 100 days before the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

RAF Officer Flight Lieutenant Rachael Cadman, who works at RAF Cranwell, undertook the Enduroman Arch2Arc Challenge in August last year, completing the trial in 97 hours.

To finish the ultimate test, she had to run 87 miles from Marble Arch in London to Dover, swim the English Channel and cycle 187 miles from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

She hopes she will be able to inspire Lincoln children by visiting local schools to share her experience of the challenge and take part in fitness lessons.

She will deliver their tickets for the Lincoln Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration at Yarborough Sports Ground on June 27.

In addition to being Lincoln’s relay ambassador, Cadman will represent the RAF at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in London.

Rachel is currently a RAF training officer, so she develops training programmes for officers in the Air Cadet Organisation.

Rachel said: “I’m really excited to be a part of the Lincoln Olympic Torch Relay as ambassador, and am looking forward to visiting the schools, sharing my experience and getting involved in the build up to the event.

“The Lincoln Olympic Torch Relay and the Evening Celebration will allow lots of Lincoln people to get involved with the Olympic Games, as the Torch comes right into the heart of our community.

“I have had a great deal of support from the RAF with flexibility over training and competing and some really valuable backing from the RAF Sports Board.”

Holly Parker, Events Officer at the City Council, said: “We’re giving 100 tickets to each school within a six-mile radius of the Olympic Torch Relay evening celebration, to make sure as many people as possible get the chance to be a part of this special family friendly event – a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Lincoln residents can get a free ticket to the Lincoln Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration at Yarborough Sports Ground from the Drill Hall starting May 10.
